Meet Author Mary Ann Appleby

This year, while at Winnie's Hometown Festival, I had the great honor of meeting and introducing author Mary Ann Appleby.  Mary Ann is the author of Winnie the Bear.

Winnie the Bear is the biography of a Canadian black bear named after the city of Winnipeg and adopted by Lieutenant Harry Colebourn, a veterinarian, who was en route overseas at the beginning of World War One.

The book takes us through Winnie and Harry's journey and the remarkable chain of events in Winnie the Bear's life reveal the bear's truly inspirational role in the creation of A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh books.

The book as been on Winnipeg's best seller's list for several months.  It is a fantastic read for any Pooh collector (and a great way to pass the 13 hour ride home from White River...)  Mary Ann, in her presentation, showed actual footage of Winnie the Bear - yes the REAL Winnie who is the whole reason we can love Winnie the Pooh today.

Visit Mary Ann's website and order a copy of Winnie the Bear.
