The carpenter Franz Aigner, a kind-hearted but strong and irascible fellow, has beaten a man to death in an argument and is sentenced to prison with a three-year suspended sentence. One of the jurors gets him a job as a bargeman on a Spree barge. There, Franz falls in love with Marie, the bargeman's daughter. But the brutal second bargeman, Paul, also has his eye on Marie and tries everything to provoke Franz into another fight. But it is only when Paul tries to rape Marie that a fight breaks out between Franz and Paul.

The film tells the story of an ambitious young man, Tom, who loves Grete, daughter of the manager of the national railroads; but Grete's father prefers Lund, an upright and uptight army officer. To prove his worth, Tom organizes a daring robbery of the nightly Bergen Express in the hopes of outwitting his rival, who's been assigned to track down the thieves.

König der Mittelstürmer / King of the Centre Forwards refers with the name of its hero to the German soccer legend of the twenties: Tull Harder, star of the Hamburger Sport Verein (HSV). But the story itself is completely fictitious: The son of a trade company's director falls in love with the daughter of a big American oil magnat. But she suspects him to be only interested in her money. So she buys his father's company to take revenge on him. The son's true love is soccer, and from the very first moment the soccer fever is present throughout the film. It starts with pictures of a soccer game and even an apple or a crumpled up paper must serve as substitute for a ball. Whereas Die elf Teufel promotes soccer as "the sport of the century", König der Mittelstürmer shows the hero's father who still has to be convinced from its importance. He hates soccer and blames everybody to be "soccer crazy".

In 1807 Prussia, Napoleon supporter Baron von Schranden forces his maid Regine to lead the French enemy across “Cat’s Bridge”, up behind a corps of Prussian volunteers who the French then decimate. In San Francisco, well-known sportsman Kay Hoog announces to a club that he has found a message in a bottle with a map drawn by a Harvard professor who has gone missing. But Lio Sha, the head of a criminal organization known as the Spiders, is determined to get the treasure for herself and plans a rival expedition.

After the Jewish Mordecai refuses to bow down to Haman, the king's minister, Haman plots to have all of the Jewish population of the kingdom killed. Mordecai places his hopes on his young and beautiful ward Esther to save their people by ingratiating herself with the king.

The Count Symon Barinowsky returns home after a long absence, and falls for his now grown foster sister. Though the two wish to marry, the count's mother greatly disapproves.
