A young man enters a brothel and sees a staged narration of a Chinese folk tale concerning a female pirate.

The story takes place in northern Italy in the 1950's. Lola and Masetto are about to get married. Masetto wants to keep Lola as a virgin until they are married. But Lola is impatient to remain in chastity until the wedding night. She wants to be sure that Masetto is a good lover, before she commits herself into marriage. She does everything to trick Masetto into breaking the moral tradition.

The boy Vito is a portrait of beauty and wide-eyed innocence spawned from a violent family of kidnapers and murderers in the South of Italy. When his entire family is murdered by a rival clan of kidnapers, Vito must flee for his own life and in the end attempts to make atonement for some of his family's sins.

It is the story of a terrorist who manages to escape during a transfer by sea and lands on a remote desert island where there is a large mansion inhabited by a little girl about 9 years old, a girl of 18, and their housekeeper.
