38 parrots - a cycle of Soviet puppet cartoons for children. The cycle consists of 10 short cartoons about the relationship of four animals - the Monkey, the Baby Elephant, the Parrot, the Boa constrictor and the grandmother of the latter.

The cartoon tells about the adventures of a kitten with the unusual name of Woof and his friend - the puppy of Sharik. Woof constantly gets into ridiculous situations and finds adventures as soon as he leaves the house. He is sure that it is necessary to go to meet the trouble, because the old cat told him: "You are waiting for some troubles!". He also knows how to properly share sausages, why a secret language is needed and why one should be afraid of thunderstorms together with a friend in the attic.

In December 1825, distinguished members of the Russian military, most of whom were quite affluent and of noble lineage, took it upon themselves to stir revolution against the autocratic and tyrannical Czar Nikolai I in the wake of his not honoring the drafting of a constitution for the Russian people. This lavish Soviet/Czech co-production is based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's famous novel, The Gambler, which tells the story of a Russian living in Germany, in a gambling resort. This film is set at the turn of the century, and was filmed in Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad), Czechoslovakia. Played by Nikolai Burlyayev, the gambler succumbs completely to his addiction, using up every resource he has (human, spiritual and financial) in his wagering, finally becoming a rootless drifter.

However, the Monkey, having learned from the Dolphin the plans of the Turtle, deceives her and forces to return to the island.

Two peasant children are taken by a fairy one night to a different world where they can see what lies behind ordinary household things, animals, and feelings. 1970's animation feature "The Blue Bird" is the only film, directed by cult Soviet actor Vasiliy Livanov. Based on a piece by Maurice Maeterlinck, this movie combines different techniques - from classic drawn animation, to cut-outs and stop-motion, creating a unique cinematic experience.

A Soviet cult cartoon, so untypical for a Western viewer, especially, a little one. A boy named Malysh ("A Little One") suffers from solitude being the youngest of the three children in a Swedish family. The acute sense of solitude makes him desperately want a dog, but before he gets one, he "invents" a friend - the very Karlson who lives upon the roof. So typical for the Russian culture spirit of mischief, which is, actually, never punished, and the notion that relative welfare not necessarily means happiness made the book by Astrid Lindgren and its TV adaptations tremendously popular in the Soviet Union and nowadays Russia and vice versa - somewhat alienated to the Western reader and viewer (see User's comments below). However, both the book and the cartoon are truly universal - entertaining and funny for the children and thought-provoking and somewhat sad for grownups.

He attempts to understand the Germans he meets along his way, but he is a 19-year-old: inquisitive, occasionally uncomprehending and repeatedly dismayed by the atrocities and lies he encounters.
