Rose, who works for a penny-pinching junk dealer, dreams of romance with wealthy bachelor Ted Tudor.

Cliff Barton, suspicious of the intentions of the local banker, Seth Tolliver, withdraws his money from the bank, hides it, and is later killed by two hirelings of the banker. Deputy Sheriff Art Stratton, who has trained Barton's horse and is in love with his daughter, Thora, is assigned to guard the ranch for the creditors; and Tolliver, who has designs on the property and wants his son to marry Thora, arranges to have the ranch auctioned.

When his sister, who is married to saloon keeper Joe Slavin, dies, Jack Armstrong takes in her little daughter, Bebe. Sampson Burke, his rival for schoolteacher Agnes Rushton, conspires with Slavin to have Jack arrested for abduction.

Anxious to make a good impression, Harcourt and his wife disguise themselves as servants, while Thayer and his fiancée take the part of the Harcourts.
