"Lunatics" narrates the experiences of different characters who live in the cities of Buenos Aires, Mexico and Montevideo. Their stories intersect. The madness of the globalized world and the local reality, of each one of them, is affected just at the moment in which the North American president begins to send posts on social networks, eliminating all trade with China.

Julián Lemar, a best-selling suspense writer, goes on vacation with his family to a cabin in the woods. During a strong storm, the power goes out and a woman shows up desperately asking for help: her husband killed her son and now he wants to kill her. From that moment on, danger and deception are a constant threat and for Julián a hellish night begins until he discovers the truth.

He arrives at their place unexpectedly and finds a man hidden under their bed. He follows the man trying to find his name and occupation, along a night full of incidents and misunderstandings.

The film does not describe, rather it observes, in a distant manner, the world of Martin, a seventeen year old who feels he doesn’t belong anywhere, not at home, school, nor with his friends or members of his rock band. In search of some happiness, Martin takes off to the coastal town of Mar de Plata, where his older brother lives. Unglamorous, yet enchantingly addictive and refreshingly genuine, Acuña paints a confused and uncomfortable world, and makes us want revisit it over and over again.

The film is about three friends in Buenos Aires: Paco, Salvador and Dino, going through their common history at three moments in their lives: the years '76, '89 and 2003.
