Having helped his father escape the law, Jim Curtis heads north with the Marshal chasing him. He and his pal Snicker elude the Marshall by changing clothes with two actors. Now forced to do vaudeville skits, Jim finds the man responsible for his and his father's problem working in the same saloon.

Against explicit orders, a vainglorious cavalry major insists on counterattacking a gang of hostile Sioux Indians. His captain refuses to comply and is arrested for insubordination and cowardice.

They discover a new pass which will shave 200 miles off the expected distance, but they are set upon by a party of Cheyenne.
