From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Bob West (born June 25, 1956) is an American television actor best known as the voice of Barney in the hit children's show Barney & Friends. He has also appeared in several Barney-related shows such as concert tours. Out of all the voice actors of Barney, West's voice is the most well-known.

As Barney, West's voice was used on the television series, in a 70 market radio show, on Multi-Platinum and Multi-Gold albums, for a feature film, for CBS and NBC primetime specials, for touring performances, as a Daytime Emmy presenter, for toys, for educational games, and for "personal appearances". He also voiced interviews on The Today Show, Live With Regis & Kathy Lee, Oprah, The Phil Donahue Show, John & Leeza, Marilu, and appearances around the world.

In 2000, West retired from the role and was temporarily replaced by voice actor Duncan Brannan, who met him through their affiliation as the voices of Chuck E. Cheese. In 2002, Dean Wendt replaced Brannan as the purple dinosaur's voice. However, West's pre-recorded voice can still be heard in A Day In The Park With Barney at Universal Studios Florida, as it was recorded in 1995.

West has provided voices for various other characters, including Jasper and Pasqually in Chuck E. Cheese's locations with Duncan Brannan, TV and radio ads for Pepsi, Bud Light (English and Spanish), Coors Light, Frito-Lay, KFC, Armour Meats, Texas Monthly Magazine, and Texas Lottery.

Title: Barney and the Backyard Gang
Character: Barney (voice)
Released: February 1, 1989
Type: TV
Barney and the Backyard Gang is a direct-to-video series produced by The Lyons Group and was produced from October 13, 1988 to October 20, 1991. This series launched the stardom of the PBS television show Barney & Friends. Music for the Barney and the Backyard Gang videos was created by Stephen Bates Baltes and Phillip Parker. The series was a regional success, but only a moderate success throughout the rest of the country. Then one day, in 1991, Larry Rifkin, then head of Connecticut Public Television, rented a Barney video for his daughter Leora. He liked the concept and talked to Leach about possibly putting Barney on television through the Public Broadcasting Service. Rock with Barney was the last video in the series before the television show debuted. Also, only four of the kids from the videos (Michael, Luci, Tina and Derek) were carried over to the television show.
