Kata has lived her first fifteen years believing that, although she has an amazing ancestry, the only thing that lies in her future is a broken heart, the symbol of the Ninth Street Gang. She and her lifelong friend Ana are two of the toughest members of their gang, fearing nothing but the loss of each other. Car-jacking, fights, and running from the cops are a daily routine as the girls fight to protect their territory and their reputation. Performing as "Outrageous Chaos" in local dance contests provides their only relief, but each night they must return home to the sad reality of their lives.

Past and present intertwine when an archaeologist and her husband find a mysterious child on the banks of the Nile and adopt him. But the more they learn about the lost tomb of Pharaoh Mamose, the more Hapi, the little child, is plagued by frightening visions. Soon it is clear that powerful forces are trying to prevent the couple from finding the tomb.

Quinn shows up at an apartment building in Paradise, a small backwoods community in Puerto Rico, purporting to be the new caretaker the owner has been expecting. He gets right to work, making a good impression on everybody, except Gus, the reclusive teenage gas station attendant. Soon, sinister things come to pass
