Mexico, 1864. The country is divided by the struggle against the French occupation and emperor Maximilian. The German doctor Karl Sternau and his friend Andreas Hasenpfeffer come to love the country and support the cause of the proud Mexicans.

Dr. Karl Sternau, the personal physician of the count Bismarck, who spent much of his youth in Mexico, is sent back to that country during the occupation by French troops in the service of the Austrian 'Emperor' Maximilian, to carry an encouraging letter from U.S. President Lincoln to the nationalist Mexican president Benito Juarez.

A young women is hired by a woman to seduce her son and convince him to return to home from his self-induced exile.

A group of young men suggest to the local tinsmith to make a movie, but he agrees only if its director would be his cousin Šeki, a Red Star FC soccer legend. Šeki, though, thinks that the movie-making is the same thing as a soccer match, which causes many argues amongst the members of the film crew.

Minja, a 19-year-old girl leaves her provincial town after her affair with the professor of drawing in order to avoid the scandal. In the big city, she meets Nenad and changes under the influence of love.

While carrying the red flag and dynamite all the way up to the church tower, Niksha negligently draws the agents' attention. This prevents him and his female companion Vjeka to leave the tower. Until the morning of May 1st, which brings the highlight of a red flag flying over the occupied Split, Vjeka and Niksha spend the night of their long-awaited rapprochement.

The topic of this routine, romantic drama is a little unusual - it concerns what some prisoners do when they are allowed out of jail for two weeks before their sentences are up. Rather than receiving some special dispensation, it turns out that in Yugoslavia this was the custom. Most of the time, the men here are engaged in pursuits that forward their relationships with the fairer sex, as might be expected after a long and lonely incarceration. There is nothing particularly profound about their two weeks of liberty, and no deep message in the tale.

After the war, a Yugoslav army captain, Vladimir, is in charge of suppressing armed supporters of the former king's regime, led by major Momir. After Vladimir's best friend is killed, he joins the rebels pretending to be one of the king's supporters. However, one of Momir's supporters, a man who harbors rebels, has an attractive daughter who is engaged to marry Momir. She knows that Vladimir is an officer of the Yugoslav army, because she has seen him wearing a Yugoslav uniform. Vladimir fears that she might betray him.

A group of partisans fight to the last man to cover a retreat, leaving only five, who take the newborn child of a dead woman with them. Based on the novel by Mihajlo Ranovcevic.

A boy named Miso runs away from home and befriends new people who happen to be criminals.
