Yaemori Alice is a chef with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) whose favorite phrase is “Cooking is chemistry.” She’s not good at communicating with people, but has an amazing memory, and holds a vast amount of knowledge, especially in her favorite subject, chemistry. A mysterious young man called Sakae Kousei shows up at the popular restaurant “Alice no Okate” looking for a live-in part time job, which is run by Alice’s childhood friend. Although Kousei seems abrasive and unfriendly, he is kind at heart, and though at first he is confused by Alice’s actions and words, he gradually comes to support her. Under the watchful eye of her protective father Shingo, an openly gay university professor, Alice works at her own pace and warms everyone’s hearts with delicious food. Set in the late 1980s, this family drama is about an 11-year-old boy who befriends his landlord, nicknamed Old Fox, and learns from him how to survive in a rapidly changing world as well as things his poor father would never be able to teach him.

Watako has just lost her lover, Kimura, in a traffic accident in Tokyo. She decides to bury the trauma of this tragedy and carries on with her life with her husband. The story takes place during a summer of continuous sunshine when water supply restrictions are issued in the city. Shunsaku Iwakiri works for the city's water department and his job is to visit homes and stores that are behind on their bills and either collect the money or shut off the water supply (water suspension enforcement). Shunsaku is separated from his wife and children, and his heart grows thirsty as he spends his days visiting poor households and being abhorred. One day, during a water shutoff, Shunsaku meets two young sisters who have been neglected. He sees them as his own children and offers them a helping hand.

In Kyoto, soon after the war, Ichika strives to save her family's long established ryoten restaurant from financial crisis. In order to do so, she marries Yamaguchi Amane, who is 15 years younger, in a marriage of convenience.

Each episode presents the stories of the broken hearts who come to the restaurant, and through the food, we are introduced to their “heartbreak on a plate” experiences. Sometimes comical, sometimes human, the series portrays people who are trying to move forward even after heartbreak. Throughout a total of 10 episodes, the relationship between Miki and a man from the flower shop (Kai Inowaki) gradually evolves into something more.

University student Kuno Totono is the type who constantly questions what is taken for granted in society and develops his own theories based on his vast knowledge and unique set of values. One day in autumn, the police come to see him. His university schoolmate has been murdered at a park nearby and the police apparently regard Totono with suspicion. He is asked to come with them for questioning. In the interrogation room, the police are manipulated by Totono who tends to digress from the topic and poke at their contradictions. He even correctly guesses that one of them is troubled about not getting along with the wife and ends up giving advice. However, Totono’s fingerprints are eventually discovered on the murder weapon.

The storyline is basically the same as in the original work, although there are many parts where logic is omitted. The dialogue and narration have been reconfigured considerably, with some of the speakers being changed, but almost all of it is composed of words extracted from the original work. However, with the exception of Kindaichi, all the characters are played by women, the dialogue is almost barbed, and the clothing deviates slightly from what is appropriate to the situation, thus eliminating any sense of reality. The reason why Nanako's jumper and Washio's trousers were needed is not clear, as the murderer swims to Nanako's room in her clothes. In addition, Lieutenant Kamio's subordinate is simplified to only one detective, Aoki.

On the first day of their meeting, Mayu comes to live at Sachi's apartment, and like a stray cat, she ends up staying. Mayu is cheerful but there is something fragile about her, and Sachi cannot thrust her away. A couple of days later, Sachi hears from her uncle, Nakayama Naoyuki, that he has found her mother.
