A popular English teacher, Mizuguchi Risako has been kidnapped three days before the high school's graduation ceremony. Four high school seniors received a mysterious challenge letter, asking them to solve the mystery of the kidnapping case within 72 hours. The four students are Kurokawa Yoshiki, his childhood friend Takahata Ayane, sports all-rounder Ogita Junpei, and school's beauty contest winner Komatsu Mio. The four students were wondering why they're the only ones who received the letter, but later gradually found out the "other face" of Mizuguchi which she has been hiding.

Shohei Kazama (Kinya Kitaoji), who travels all over the country and works as a special police chief, is new to the Iwaki Tokiwa Police Station in Fukushima Prefecture. Kenichi Nishino (Yuma Nakayama) and Kanji Takizaki (Hiroki Okada), the head of the criminal division, express their repulsion. Dai Kuramochi (Hiroshi Katsuno), an alumnus of the Fukushima Prefectural Police, tries to calm him down, but for some reason he continues to show hostility. At that time, Hisashi Ono's (Ichiro Ogura) body is found.

Hajime Aoyama runs the mobile coffee shop Tako Coffee. Riding in his coffee truck, he goes from street to street. Along the way, he comforts those with wounded hearts and minds. Hajime Aoyama appears carefree, but he has a secret.

Ishida Ren works for a real estate developer and is Yo’s best friend. On Yo’s 29th birthday, the two friends place a wager to give 300,000 yen as a congratulatory gift to the one who is the first to get married by the last day they are 30. Although they declare that it is impossible for them to fall in love with each other, this wager, as well as advances by Ren’s junior in the company and Yo’s reunion with her ex-boyfriend, lead to gradual changes in the relationship of the two best friends.

Aiming to bring back the danchi of the past for the sake of his granddaughter's future, the man's passion for his contradictory ideal gradually descends into madness.

The story centers on Ayame and Tsubaki, who are researchers at a lab in the biology department of T University. Ayame is a “returnee,” someone who lived abroad for a while and then returned to Japan. He does things at his own pace and is a “dinosaur otaku,” and Tsubaki is his older colleague who is an enthusiast of studying the skeletons of birds and dinosaurs. Kenta Kurata (Masaki Aiba) lives with his father, Taichi (Akira Terao), his mother, Keiko (Kaho Minami), and his younger sister, Nana (Kasumi Arimura) in an isolated home in the suburbs. He works as an unpopular commercial designer. Kenta Kurata possesses a timid personality, which he picked up from his father. Kenta doesn't like his father. One day, while waiting for the train, Kenta warns a man who pushed a woman and cut in line. Kenta is surprised that he spoke out with his normally timid personality. After that incident, Kenta's family home is targeted by an unknown person with flowers from their garden being pulled out and the seat of a bicycle being torn. Also, Kenta's younger sister Nana is stalked by her ex-boyfriend. Kenta and his family try to find out who is responsible.

In 1980, Ayuko is a new transfer student in Okayama from Tokyo. She doesn't have any friends and relies on her boyfriend Hideo who is a college student. Ayuko likes to draw a romance manga of herself and her boyfriend. Ayuko's classmate, Takemi, becomes a huge fan of Ayuko's manga and they become close friends. Due to an incident though, they drift apart. 30 years later, Ayuko is now a manga artist and comes back to Okayama to give a lecture at her former high school. There, Ayuko meets Takemi who is now a teacher.

Shiori Yamauchi finds a letter in her mailbox addressed to a Reiko Miura, who seems to be the previous occupant of her condo unit. She opens the letter out of curiosity. In it were the words, "I want to see you. I love you." A few days later, another letter arrived with the words, "I'll come and see you today after a long time." Scared, Shiori did an internet search for "Reiko Miura" and found out that she was the victim of a stalker murder that happened a year and a half ago.

Amachan is the 88th 2013 NHK asadora written by Kankuro Kudo (Tiger and Dragon, Unobore Deka). It's about Amano Aki (Nounen Rena), a 16 year old girl from Tokyo who goes to her mother's former home in Sodegahama, a fishing village in Kitasanriku, Iwate prefecture for the summer break. She falls in love with the sea and its people, and decides to stay on to become an Ama (women divers who fetch clams and sea urchins for tourists) just like her grandmother, Natsu (Miyamoto Nobuko). Her decision is welcomed wholeheartedly by Natsu and the other locals. However, her mother Haruko (Koizumi Kyoko) does not like the idea at first. She has a strained relationship with Natsu, and her extreme dislike of the sea, diving and the countryside is one of the reasons why she left her hometown 24 years ago. Eventually, she decides to stay in Sodegahama with Aki, considering that she is contemplating on getting a divorce anyway and does not want to go back to her husband in Tokyo. She also notices that it might be good for Aki for she seems livelier and happier in Kitasanriku than in Tokyo. The road towards becoming a full-fledged Ama-san is tough for Aki as she encounters tests and hurdles. One day, a video of her as an Ama gets uploaded in the city's tourism website, transforming an ordinary high school girl into an overnight Internet sensation. Suddenly she is called upon to use this opportunity to attract tourists to a city suffering from depopulation.
