CBC’s first prime time soap opera follows the intertwined lives of four families in Toronto’s Riverdale community.

Kelly keeps getting into trouble with the police. Her mother agrees to her going into a juvenile detention center overnight. She is kept there for much longer. During her incarceration, she is assaulted by inmates and abused by the system.

A wealthy couple (James Brolin and Deidre Hall) are killed on their yacht off the coast of a secluded South American island called Palmyra. The suspects are a hippyish pair (Hart Bochner and Rachel Ward) whom the rich folks had befriended. It’s fairly clear that the hippies were involved in the crime: The question is, did the man do it while the girl looked on helplessly, or was she a willing accomplice?

Years have passed since Sophie (Wendy Crewson) left the ranch her family calls home to pursue her dream of becoming a singer. The death of her father means that Sophie, now 30, must return to the home she left behind so long ago. Once there, she's persuaded by her mother to leave her own aspirations behind and help with the ranch -- a choice that's helped along by the presence of Alex (Paul Gross), an attractive ranch hand.

Two losers rob a rich guy and discover that, among the loot, they've taken a rare painting worth $2.8 million. John Larroquette plays his usual rude, selfish character-here named Gus - and he suckers Willy (Gregory Harrison) into his scheme to rob the mansion. The two losers have to try to figure out how to sell the valuable but high-profile item without getting busted. They travel the world looking for potential buyers but always end up short. Everyone can see that they are novices in the art world and buffoons in general.
