Filmed in Puerto Rico and the Bronx, this documentary pays homage to two forms of traditional Puerto Rican music: la bomba and la plena. This film also celebrates the African influence of this music and its significance to Puerto Rico’s rich culture. In 1942, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a casino is organizing a farewell party for its patrons, since it's about to be turned into a US military base. The guests drink, seduce and gossip, but some also plot against each other.

A sailor decides to marry his girlfriend, but her boss is in love with her and orders a beating for her boyfriend. Once the sailor regains consciousness, he is accused of murder and must flee. Once he gets to the port, however, he is beaten again, losing his memory as a consequence.

Charlie is a dope smuggler who lives on his own private desert island and rules over the natives with an iron fist. When the native stooges get out of line, Charlie literally cracks the whip on his insubordinate subordinates. When a sexpot named Glory comes to the island, he holds her prisoner and makes her go-go dance for him.
