The film tells about the period of Polish history in the 20s of the last century, when the fragile government of the country fell, and a man of the people came to the fore. In fact, he turned out to be a cunning populist and an immoral politician, ready for any tricks for the sake of his goals.

Ryszard Ochódzki receives a special assignment for UB - infiltrating the "Solidarity" party branch in Suwałki. His arriving there coincides with the imposition of martial law on Poland.

The 17th century, the reign of King Władysław IV. The half-siblings of Stanisław and Anna Oświęcim have been linked by love since childhood. During the feast, a conflict arises between Stanisław and Zebrzydowski, Anna's competitor. Stanisław is wounded in a duel. Anna bandages him in her room. There is a rapprochement between them. Stanisław leaves for the Vatican to obtain a dispensation from the Pope for a wedding with Anna. Meanwhile, Anna repents, misses, prays and refuses to eat. Not a single word is spoken in the movie. The mood is built by Karłowicz's music.

Set in the 16th century in the Grand Inqusition period. Ruprecht stops overnight at an inn, and falls in love with the lovely Renata. She however, has fallen under the spell of Count Henryk, whom she believes to be an "angel of fire". The girl eventually brings him before the Inquisition.
