Bianca – Wege zum Glück was the first German telenovela, developed by the TV production company Grundy UFA . It started on 1 November 2004 and ran until 5 October 2005 on the ZDF . The main characters were Bianca Berger, played by Tanja Wedhorn, and Oliver Wellinghoff, played by Patrik Fichte.

Otto Scheidel (Manfred Krug) has been captain of the Elbe steamer Jenissei for over twenty years, but his ship, the last of its kind, is going to be converted into a floating restaurant. The electrician Peter Drews is a brigadier at a Baltic Sea dockyard. His men are among the most reliable and diligent workers at the dockyard. Their motivation, however, increasingly suffers from Peter’s narcissism and imperiousness.
