After the divorce of his parents, 15-year-old teenager Valya Lapin is forced to move with his mother to the province, where everything disgusts him. But he knows that as soon as the school year ends, he will move to his father in Canada. Lapin decides to lie low, wait, just exist in anticipation of moving. The only thing he lets in from his new life is running. After all, it helps to escape from reality.

In the late 1980s, when “perestroika” was taking place in the USSR and the era of the Soviet Union was about to collapse, life became unstable and very different. The 1980s brought not only freedom, but also waves of crime on the city streets. The only thing that matters to them is the vows they make to their gang members-brothers, with whom they confront the violence and fears of the adult world.

The film is inspired by the record-breaking solo trip around the globe in a hot-air balloon made by the world-famous Russian explorer Fedor Konyukhov in July of 2016. Throughout his remarkable life, Konyukhov has proven time and time again that willpower, perseverance and faith can help overcome fear and doubt, and lead a person to triumph.

Famous musician Nikita Prozorov is kidnapped in a house in the center of Moscow. Investigator Ivanov finds out that the abduction was staged, and Nikita's mother, Renata, a well-known TV producer, is involved in this. Four newly acquainted fellows must by any means fly to Moscow in non-flying weather, and a couple of young lovers must reconcile their irreconcilable parents by some mysterious way. Valera has to decide on a dilemma: to save mankind from the Deluge or just to fly with his karaoke-alien-friends in their old UFO? All these things can happen only once a year – on December, 31!
