Charlie Gedelius has spent the last years abroad as a golf trainer. In Copenhagen, Denmark, he meets young Lena, who happens to be his brother-in-law's mistress. He goes back to Sweden to meet his sister Astrid. Her son Staffan has borrowed money from a money-lender to pay for an abortion for a girl he has met.

The local newspaper celebrates 50 years and are now looking for a citizen who has lived as long in the neighborhood. Our hero Åsa-Nisse seems to fit the profile.

Bertil Lund works at the wholesaling company Everything for the Baby. The supervisor Fredriksson is considering promoting him to vice-president but there is one obstacle: Bertil is yet unmarried and is thus considered unsuitable.
