Schaake begann ihre Karriere 1959 mit einer Rolle in Aus dem Tagebuch eines Frauenarztes mit Rudolf Prack in der Hauptrolle. Zwei Jahre später drehte sie mit Götz George und Johanna von Koczian Unser Haus in Kamerun. Nach einigen Fernsehauftritten hatte sie eine Nebenrolle im Oscar-prämierten Spielfilm Was gibt’s Neues, Pussy? mit Peter Sellers, Romy Schneider und Woody Allen. Es folgte mit Blüten, Gauner und die Nacht von Nizza mit Jean Gabin und Curd Jürgens in den Hauptrollen eine weitere internationale Produktion. Sie arbeitete ab 1969 mehrfach unter Rainer Werner Fassbinder, unter anderem in Liebe ist kälter als der Tod, Die bitteren Tränen der Petra von Kant und Welt am Draht. Zu dieser Zeit war sie mit Ulli Lommel verheiratet [1], von dem sie sich wieder scheiden ließ. Ab 1974 war Schaake zwölf Jahre die Lebensgefährtin von Marius Müller-Westernhagen[2]. Bis zum Ende der 1980er Jahre arbeitete sie nur gelegentlich als Schauspielerin in Fernsehproduktionen, Wie 1968 in der Fernsehserie Hafenkrankenhaus mit Anneli Granget in der Hauptrolle. Ende der 70er Jahre synchronisierte sie auch pornografische Filme, unter anderem die Darstellerin Jessie St. James. Zwischen 1990 und 1995 trat sie dann wieder vermehrt auf, hauptsächlich in deutschen Fernsehkrimis wie Tatort, Peter Strohm und Schwarz Rot Gold. Zu ihren Theaterstationen gehörte u. a. das Landestheater Detmold (ab 1960).
