A modern take on the classic novel by Alexander Pushkin. Vladimir is a successful banker and a regular at trendy night clubs. Masha is a diligent graduate of a British college and a loving daughter. It looks like they have bright future ahead. However, an unexpected quarrel between two eccentric fathers forces their offspring to live through the conflict of Pushkin's novel.

The workers fight for their rights creating independent union. They know that it is the only way to struggle against the owners of the plant.

Lesha Shultes, a pickpocket, leads the ordinary life of an average urban creature. The only extraordinary thing about Shultes is that he carries a little notebook with him and notes down everything. This minimalist drama of a 'small man' in a metropolis delivers an existential message with a distinct Russian flavour.

Fate brings the heroine together with different men, but her novels are unhappy: one lover returns to his homeland in Egypt, the other dies in a car accident. There is still hope for a third. Maybe we'll get lucky with him?..

The film is based on documentary facts and tells the story of an officer in the Japanese General Staff who received the task under the name of Captain Rybnikov to infiltrate the military circles of St.Petersburg. It was exposed after the famous Tsushima battle of 1904, when Japan destroyed the entire Russian Far Eastern fleet.
