Born into a well-off family, Franz Blum had led a carefree youth until, some time after graduating from high school, he was arrested by the police. Angels of the Street or The Angel of St. Pauli is a 1969 West German crime film directed by Jürgen Roland and starring Horst Frank, Herbert Fux and Werner Pochath. It is set in the St. Pauli red light district of the port of Hamburg.

Kummerow, a village in North East Germany, around 1900: Mean-spirited miller Düker wants to drive cowherd Krischan out of the village. Being popular with the local children, Krischan can rely on the help of schoolboys Martin and Johannes and their friends, who try to prevent the miller's plans by playing pranks on him.

Helmut Schmidt is an ambitious Interpol inspector. He follows a trail of dangerous drug dealers that leads to Hamburg. With the colleagues there, he decides to infiltrate the gang. The beautiful dancer Arlette helps him.

An elaborate bank robbery takes place and the gangsters succeed although the FBI had been warned. Jerry Cotton, who is considered accountable for this major failure, loses his badge over this. Being the man he is, Cotton doesn't let the evil-doers forget that he has unfinished business with them.
