Herbert Standing was a British stage and screen actor and the patriarch of the Standing family of actors. He was the father of numerous children, many who had careers in theatre and cinema. Toward the end of his life, he appeared in many Hollywood silent films.

They are wedded by mistake when serving as witnesses to marriage by elopement. Farrell, a rival for Edith, learns of Tommy's deception and persuades Edith to elope with him; but Tommy follows in hot pursuit, in his pajamas and derby. At the last minute, a message arrives telling Edith that she and Tommy are already married.

He informs the police that Picard no longer exists, and escapes with Helen to a new life.
