Aldo pulled out of the bout and a interim championship bout between Chad Mendes and McGregor took place at this event. WEC 6: Return of a Legend was a mixed martial arts event promoted by World Extreme Cagefighting on March 27, 2003 at the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore, California. The event was centered around the return of MMA superstar Frank Shamrock taking on Bryan Pardoe. Shamrock had been retired and not competed in MMA since December 2000.

WEC 4: Rumble Under The Sun was a mixed martial arts event held on August 31, 2002 at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut. WEC 4's main event was a fight between Aaron Brink and Jeremy Horn.
