This French film chronicles the amazing-but-true story of Lisa Alling who in 1928 successfully walked from New York City to Siberia via the Bering Straight by following telegraph poles. It was shot entirely in the Ukraine. Lisa, a chambermaid, has had enough of American life and wants go home to Siberia. Because she had no money, she decided it was better to walk than stay in the U.S. any longer. An opportunist, she takes whatever food, warmth and even romance that is offered along the way.

The Soviet border guards received information about an upcoming drug transit in the Far East aboard an American seiner. At the same time, a group of especially dangerous criminals escapes from the strict regime camp. Moving away from the pursuit of border guards, bandits take hostage the crew of the seiner. Soviet border guards, together with the US Coast Guard, are fighting criminals.

Anton Nikolaevich Skvortsov (O.Yefremov) is a strong and resolute person, for all his life he has been heading a big labor collective, and now he is retired, he interred his wife half a year ago, beared infarction, and now is living in his big flat with a daughter, her husband and a grown-up granddaughter. On the excursion bus he gets acquainted with Anna Konstantinovna (I.Savvina), whos retired on pension. This meeting turnes his life upside-down.
