Edmund Dantes is falsely accused by those jealous of his good fortune, and is sentenced to spend the rest of his life in the notorious island prison, Chateau d'If. While imprisoned, he meets the Abbe Faria, a fellow prisoner whom everyone believes to be mad. The Abbe tells Edmund of a fantastic treasure hidden away on a tiny island, that only he knows the location of. After many years in prison, the old Abbe dies, and Edmund escapes disguised as the dead body. Now free, Edmund must find the treasure the Abbe told him of, so he can use the new-found wealth to exact revenge on those who have wronged him.

Le Cas Du Dr. Laurent (The Case of Dr. Laurent) stars Jean Gabin as a Paris-based doctor who tries to spread the gospel of Natural Childbirth. Working in a cloistered rural community, Gabin runs up against the stone walls of fear and prejudice. His theories are proven sound when unwed mother Nicole Courcel gives birth within Gabin's methodology. The childbirth sequence is filmed straight-on with a delicate combination of taste and frankness. Nonetheless, the lurid ad campaign of Cas Du Dr. Laurent sensationalized this sequence all out of proportion.

As he explains to the journalist who came to interview him, Honoré cultivates, as a perfect Marseillais, farnienté and galéjade. He evokes the Phocaean Protis, who founded the city of Marseille, and the Roman Honorius, who invented pétanque. He loves to go fishing with his friends Garrigue and Watermelon to prepare a good bouillabaisse, and even more, to rig the results of a vote to allow a little protégée to be crowned Miss flots bleus.

Fernand Sarrazin, who runs a nougat factory to perfection, is a happy bachelor, notwithstanding the acrimonious presence of his sister-in-law Julie. Love enters his life in the form of a young orphan, Cécilia, whom he saves from drowning, falls in love with and marries. The treacherous Julie uses a young pianist to lead Cecilia astray. She returns, however, repentant, after a short stay in Paris. Good Fernand forgives her, but when he learns of his sister-in-law's actions, he chases her out of his house.

A small village is torn apart by a quarrel between the baker and the italian grocery tenant, mother of a pregnant young girl. The practice of Dr. Julien, a GP of Marseilles, consists mainly of drug-addicts. One day, one of his patient dies at his surgery and Julien yields to the temptation : he steals the dead man's money and hides the corpse in a trunk. But the whole thing is discovered and ... misinterpreted. The doctor is condemned for killing the junkie and sent to the Cayenne convict prison, from which he escapes. The Indians give him shelter and he is soon given the opportunity to return their good deed when a yellow fever epidemic strikes their tribe. A young woman helps to fight the disease and, thanks to her, Julien starts considering that a new life is possible for him.

A man assists his gravely ill wife to die and wants to face justice for this, but his brothers try everything to keep the family's name clean.
