Two friends (Katerina Didaskalo, Stefan Danalyov) are separated when their village is divided by Communism, but they meet again 40 years later and begin having an affair.

The story largely centers on a grandfather who finds himself deeply depressed by the dramatic downward turns Bulgarian society has taken. The changes of the past half century have created a deep communications gap between generations and he is unable to communicate with his troubled son. Nor is the old man able to do much to help his grandson who is making his first forays into criminal life, blaming it all on his mother who admits she is incapable of loving him. The grandfather tires of life with the bleak family and so goes to an old folks home. But that proves repressive, so he and a couple of friends leave to enact a money-making scheme. When that fails, the old man finds himself alone and destitute on the rough streets of Sofia where his despairing eyes witness the further ruination of his homeland.

Stoev, a talented architect is working in Rio de Janeiro. All along the design stages, Stoev's understanding has been that he would be going together with his assistant architect. However, the company chief secretly decides to change the terms and go instead of the assistant, threatening Stoev to cancel the whole deal if he doesn't comply. Stoev is left with the dilemma to betray a colleague and friend, or to miss the greatest opportunity in his career. When Stoev is about to choose the former, a mysterious dead body appears in his life.

Velko, Filip, Pavel and Gosho have different professions but are connected by the love they have for music. They rehearse all year to make it big on the sea resorts in the summer. The head of the cultural center where they play is willing to give them the musical equipment if they replace their singer Maria (Filip's girlfriend) with the attractive but untalented Reni. The charming young man Ran is a director in a school in his hometown. His classmate Mariana is his wife. At the first glance, things are like, as they ought to be. In the world of untold words and timid gestures something important is missing - the understanding. He cannot succumb to the routine, hypocrisy and egoism. Ran sees every moment of his everyday life as a part of everlasting human strive for beauty and perfection, which brings him many troubles and causes conflicts with his colleagues and his friends. The intrigues and betrayal of a part of his colleagues during the visitation of a school inspector make him lose his patience. On a public place, he slaps the inspector who destroys the human dignity of the others. There is a court against Ran. He must leave the school. He leaves his wife Mariana who does not understand him. These misfortunes do not stop his search for real values, real work, real love, in another place, another town, another school.

Maria, a beautiful middle-aged woman, former participant in the fight against Nazism is killed. The investigator Urumov discovers the criminal. Urumov wants to know the reason why Dzherikarov has committed the murder. Dzherikarov is a former officer of the king army. Maria's memories expose the fact that she has arrested his commander in the past. By killing Maria, he wants to save his understanding of "officer's honor". Urumov sees that Maria's daughter leaves at the mother's grave an apple. In order to save her illusion, he eats the apple every time. In final talk with Dzherikarov, the murderer condemns himself to death and eats the apple.

During the socialist regime in Bulgaria, the migration from villages to bigger towns brings a lot of problems and sadness to some of the party activists.

Born in a small village, Yordan has to live and work in the nearby town. Only on the weekends can he return to his native village. He travels by a bike and observes the nature and the animals around him with overt sadness. In the village arrives a young pharmacist and she rents his house. Soon both of them fall in love. In order to be near her, Yordan tries to persuade his colleagues to move one of the workshops from the plant to the village. But they are all used to living in the town now and decline his offer. Yordan realizes that he cannot demand impossible things.

Two novels united by common characters and a never-settled problem: the clash between sincerity of children and the heartless pragmatism and ambitions of grown-ups.

The daily routine in the village of Yugla is broken by the statistician clerk Asenov, who comes with a mission to count the hare population in the locality. He makes the village mayor Bay Georgi mobilize the local men in realization of the absurd task. Same day all the village men are in the field - the mayor, the teacher, the veterinarian… Naturally all the efforts failed in fulfilling the mission since not a single hare was seen.

Bulgaria in the 1950's. The agriculture in the country goes after the communist model. In one village, there is a man who refuses to join the cooperative and opposes the despotic local leader.

The year is 1948 and a counter-revolutionary gang is active in the Pirin region. A State Security officer managed to infiltrate the gang. He becomes "one of their own", but isn't in a rush to complete his task.

The movie is set in the years of WWII. The partisans Stefan, Rado and Velko await a plane with weapon. The three men are trapped. Velko is killed. Rado and Stefan go to the Silent one. Only she knows the location where the weapon should be received. Army regiments arrive and a shootout begins. The plane drops the weapons. Stefan covers the others with machine gun while the Silent one and Rado leave with the weapon to the contingent
