Happy 90th Birthday Winnie the Pooh?

Is it Pooh's Birthday Again? Pooh is 90 years old? I thought he was 102? No, 134... Or is he 50... It depends on who you ask...

Depending on who you talk to – if you are Pooh-savvy or can quote Pooh-Trivia like Owl, Pooh has several "birthdays". Here are the dates one might consider Pooh's birthday:

  • August 21st – This is Christopher Robin Milne's birthday. He was born in 1920 and for his first birthday received an Alpha Farnell teddy bear he named Edward. Later Edward bear was renamed to Winnie the Pooh.

  • August 24th - It was on this date in 1914 White River Trapper, George Cooke, sold a black bear cub to Lieutenant Harry Colebourn who was passing through town. Harry called the little cub "Winnipeg" after his hometown and eventually she became known as "Winnie". Shortly after adopting Winnie, Colebourn received orders to report to France so he made arrangements to leave Winnie in the London Zoo until he returned.

  • October 14th - In 1926 The first publication of the book Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne debuted.  The world, in mass, was introduced to a bear and a story that would span the ages.

  • November 6th – In 1924 Christopher Robin's teddy bear , Edward, made his character début in a poem called "Teddy Bear" in Milne's book of children's verse When We Were Very Young.

  • December 24th – In 1925 Winnie-the-Pooh first appeared by name in a story called "The Wrong Sort of Bees." which was commissioned and published by the London newspaper The Evening News.

  • January 18th - Many celebrate this day as office Winnie the Pooh Day because it is the birthday of his author and creator A.A. Milne.  Milne was born in 1882

  • February 4th – In 1966 Disney debuts to the world the movie Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree.

If it means having "cake and presents" on each day -- I say celebrate them all -- just as long as you don't need to get older.
